Description

Julia is a fast and free language, very efficient for data science and in particular chemometry. Jchemo (https://github.com/mlesnoff/Jchemo.jl) is a versatile Julia package providing machine learning algorithms dedicated to chemometry and high-dimensional data. The training consists in getting started with the Julia environment (using the Microsoft IDE Visual Code) and in a review (based on real examples/tutorials of data analyses) of the main functions of Jchemo. Linear (PCA, PLS, etc.) and non-linear algorithms (e.g. KNN-LWPLS) for data exploration and predictions (regression/discrimination) are presented and implemented on existing datasets.

Objectifs de la formation

Improve the autonomy of the trainee to analyse chemometrics data: data pre-processing and exploration, regression and discrimination models. The trainee will be able to use Julia environment (with the IDE VS Code), to install packages and, with the help of package Jchemo, to write and run own scripts implementing main types of analyses requested in chemometry.

Public visé

Researchers, practitionners and students in chemometrics, who expect to improve their knowledge and autonomy on the statistical analysis of spectrometer data.

Prérequis

Beginners are accepted but a preliminary knowledge of the basic chemometrics theoretical concepts (spectral pre-processing, PLS regression, cross-validation) is requested. Julia is a programming language, therefore a preliminary experience on manipulating or/and writing scripts of equivalent languages (e.g. R, Python or Matlab) is recommended.

The training will be delivered in French and if needed in English

Modalités pédagogiques

The training session is based on tutorials on the individual computers of the trainees. Many examples of the analysis of real chemometrics datasets (data exploration, regression and discrimination) are presented and run by the trainees. The theoretical concepts that are needed for full understanding of the data analyses are described (when needed) in real time over the various studied examples.

Moyens et supports pédagogiques

The teaching resources come from several web sites  (developed by M. Lesnoff) related to the toolbox Jchemo. Before the training, the trainee has to download and install Julia from the official website, as well the Microsoft IDE Visual Code. A help  for this installation step can be provided (at distance) before the session by the training organizator.
